Projects and tasks
Projects with sections, subtasks and a backlog, the Tasks page with its list, board and timeline, templates and changing many tasks at once.
Projects
A project gathers the tasks for one bigger goal, with its notes and how far along it is. Add one with the + button on the Projects page, then add tasks from its page, or from any day with +Project in the task's line or the project chip.
A project's tasks show on your day pages like any other, under a project header inside each section, so you see what you are working on in context. Tasks in a project roll over like any task. Project headers come in the order of the Projects page, group by group. To change it, drag a header by its handle (on a phone, choose Edit list first) or reorder the projects on the Projects page; a project moves among the projects of its own group.

A project's page
A project's page has three tabs:
- Overview: its properties (status, dates, colour, group, tags, pins), its description, its progress, a graph of what links to it, Save as template and Delete.
- Notes: the project's notes by date, then everything written on its tasks, newest day first. See Notes by date.
- Tasks: the open tasks under the day page's sections and the Backlog, with a switch to Finished, List, Board and Timeline views of the same project. The + button adds a task in Cards, List, Board and Timeline alike.
The date bar at the top steps back through the project's history: any past day shows the project as it was at the end of that day.
Progress
A project's progress counts its tasks: finished ones in full, and an open task with subtasks by the share of them that are done. So a task with 2 of 4 subtasks done counts as half, and a project moves before any task is finished.
The backlog
The Backlog keeps tasks for later off your day pages until you are ready. Backlog tasks never roll over and do not count toward progress. Move a task in or out by dragging it across the Backlog header, with To tasks on a backlog card, or with To backlog in a task's panel. A task taken out of the backlog lands on today's page.
Status: active, paused, done, archived
Set a project's status in its properties; active shows in blue, paused in orange and done in green. Paused rests its tasks off today's and later day pages until you set it back to active; nothing is lost, and past days still show them. Done and archived projects fold away at the bottom of the Projects page.
Project groups
File projects in groups, such as Work and Personal. New group on the Projects page adds one. A group's menu starts a project in it, renames it, sets its icon, moves it up or down, adds tags (which its projects and their tasks inherit) and removes it. To move a project to another group, drag it by its handle onto that group (or onto No group): the group lights up and says Move here, and the project lands where you let go, or at the end of a folded group. You can also pick its group in its properties. The sidebar lists active projects by group.
The Tasks page
Tasks (in the sidebar and menu, Alt+K) lists every task and subtask across all projects, with three views:
- List: a table on a computer (status, task, project (None when it has none), priority, due date, days on day pages, times rolled over) and compact rows on a phone. Group by status, project, priority or due date, and sort by any column.
- Board: columns for Backlog, To do, In progress and Done. Drag a card to another column on a computer, or use its column button anywhere. Swimlanes split the board by project, priority or due date.
- Timeline: a gantt chart of each task's life on your day pages, coloured by what each day came to (rolled over, done, overdue), with the due date marked.
One filter row serves all three: words, project, status, priority, due date, rolled over, how long ago things were finished, and subtasks. A summary above it says how much has been rolling over.

Change many tasks at once
In the list, Select turns each row's status into a check box and brings up a bar with Status, Priority, Project, Due, Delete and Done. On a computer, Ctrl-click (⌘-click) picks a row and Shift-click picks a run of rows. Each change is one step you can undo.
Tasks in depth
- Statuses: open, in progress, done and won't do. The panel's status buttons set any of them, and a finished task opens again from its mark.
- Subtasks go to any depth. They take their parent's dates, priority and colour until they have their own, and closing a task asks first about its open subtasks.
- Full screen: the button beside a task panel's close button opens the task on its own page, with a trail back to its project and parent.
- Notes by date: under a task's notes, Write today's notes keeps a log of the task, one entry per day.
- History: a task's date bar shows it as it was on any day, and its history lists every change.
Templates
Save a project, or a task's checklist, as a template from the project's page or the task's panel. Using a template makes the project (or the tasks) again with the dates shifted to the start you pick. Find your templates on the Templates page in the menu.
Undo, trash and history
Almost every change can be undone: Ctrl+Z (⌘+Z) on a computer, or the undo button and the toast that follows a change. Deleting only moves things to the Trash, where they wait with their history until you restore them or delete them for good. The History page lists every change across the app, day by day.
