On this page
Writing a note
Start a note with the + button on the Notes page (or Alt+Shift+N). It opens on its own page with the title ready to type. A note you leave without writing anything is not kept.
Every text in Rollov reads first and is edited on purpose: tap Edit to write, and Save (or Ctrl+Enter) when you are done. That way a tap while reading or scrolling never raises the keyboard. On a phone, the text you start writing moves up to the top of the screen, clear of the keyboard, and so does any field you tap to type in. Checklists can be ticked while reading.
The editor has headings, bold, italics, strikethrough, code, quotes, lists, checklists, links and tables. Switch to Markdown mode to write the Markdown itself; Markdown you paste comes in formatted.

Text shortcuts
Type / at the start of a line or after a space for shortcuts: /today, /tomorrow, /time, /now, /week, /monday to /sunday and more, each giving today's value. Settings › General › Text shortcuts sets the date format and clock, and lets you add shortcuts of your own.
Images and files
Paste a screenshot, drop files onto the text, or use the paperclip tool. Photos are shrunk on your device before they are saved. A file can be up to 5 MB, and an account holds about 100 MB. Images show in place; other files show as a chip. Tap either to open it full screen.
To keep a file with a task, note, project, event or person without putting it in the text, press Attach (the paperclip next to Edit). The files are listed under the text with the rest, appear in the item's history, and can be deleted from the list.
Links and previews
A web link in a note shows a preview card under the text, with the page's title and picture. Tap the card to open the link, or the copy button beside it to copy the address without opening it. A Google Maps or Naver Map link shows a map card with buttons for the link's own app, the map apps you have on, and copying the link.
Opening files
Tap a file or picture, in the text or in the list under it, and it opens full screen. PDFs show every page, CSV and Excel files show as a table, JSON as a tree you can fold, and Markdown, HTML and text files as they read. Zoom with the buttons at the bottom, the + and - keys, or by pinching. The bar at the top has Open in browser, Download and Delete (behind ⋯ on a phone), and arrows to the other files in the same text. Close it with ✕, Escape or back. HTML files show with their scripts off.
Folders, tags and pins
The Notes page lists folders beside the notes on a computer, and first on a phone. Make your own folders with Add folder, and reorder them by their handles. An open folder's name is edited in place, like a note's title, and its icon is picked beside it. Its details hold the same things a note's do: Tags (which its notes inherit), Pins to pin groups, an On top switch that keeps it at the top of the folder list, and a Color. Folders can hold folders: Add subfolder in the ⋯ menu makes one inside the open folder, the folder list shows them indented under it (the arrow beside a folder folds them away), and Inside in a folder's details moves it into another folder or back to the top level. A subfolder names the folders it is in above its name, each a link back up, and its notes inherit the tags of every folder it is in. Remove folder is in the ⋯ menu beside the name, and asks first; its notes move out of it, and its subfolders move up a level. Every account also has built-in folders:
- Day notes: the notes you write on day pages.
- Weekly goals: each week's goals note.
- Scrapbook: links saved to read later.
- Task notes: entries written under tasks and projects by date.
Under them, Event notes lists what you wrote on calendar events.
Sort the list by last edited, created, title or your own order, and filter it by type and tag. A note's On top switch keeps it at the top of its folder, marked with an arrow. That is separate from Pins, which gather things from anywhere into groups. See Tags for tags that reach across the app.
Links and backlinks
Type [[ to link to another note, a task, a project, a day or an event; type @ to mention a person. A note's page lists what it links to and what is linked from it, with the line that does, so a note gathers its context.
Add a task to read it puts a task on today's page that links back to the note.
The graph
Graph (in the menu) shows every note, task, project, person and day with a link, drawn as a map, with the most linked in the middle. Point at a node to bring out its neighbours, find nodes by name, and use the slider to replay how your notes grew day by day. Each note's page also has a small local graph.
Day notes and weekly goals
Each day page has room for a day note, for a journal or meeting notes. Day notes are ordinary notes, titled with their date, and their arrows step to the next and previous day that has one. A week's goals live on the week's own note, and the Weekly goals folder lists them all.
Notes by date
Projects and tasks keep one description, and under it notes by date: one entry per day, newest first. Write today's notes opens today's entry, so a project's notes become a log you can read back day by day. Entries are ordinary notes in the Task notes folder. Once a day is over its entry is closed.
History of a note
Every version of a note is kept. A note's date bar shows it as it was at the end of any day, and its history lists each change. Search can look through earlier versions with in:history.
The scrapbook
The Scrapbook keeps links to read later, one bucket per day. Paste one or more links into today's scrapbook (or Save a link from the + button on a day) and Scrap saves each as its own note, with a status: to read, done, later or abandoned. A day page shows how many links it has and how many are still to read.
With the AI switch on, Rollov reads each saved page and writes notes about it: a summary, key facts and what to take from it. For a page it cannot reach (behind a sign-in, say), you can open it yourself and send it as you see it: from the in-app browser on a phone, or with the Send to Rollov bookmark on a computer. Scrapbook notes gathers everything you wrote about saved links.
Import notes
Import files in the + button's menu on the Notes page (or dropping files on the page) makes a note of each Markdown, HTML or text file, in the open folder.
Share a note by link
A note's details have Share by link: anyone with the link can read the note, signed in or not, and it follows your edits. Copy link copies it again, and Stop sharing turns the link off. A shared note shows Shared at the top of its details and a link mark by its title in the notes list.
- The link is short, like
share.rollov.app/Ab3dE5fG7h#…, and opens on share.rollov.app, apart from your signed-in Rollov. Chat apps show it as a "Shared with you" card. - The shared page is read only and shows the note in the reader's theme and language.
- The key that opens the shared copy is only in the link itself, after the
#, which browsers never send to a server. With notes end-to-end encrypted, Rollov cannot read the shared copy either. - Links to your other notes read as plain text, and attached files are not shared.
